NEET UG 2026 Syllabus Update: What's New & What to Skip

The National Medical Commission (NMC) along with the National Testing Agency has finalized the core curriculum for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG 2026). Over 24 lakh medical aspirants will vie for MBBS, BDS, and AYUSH seats across Indian medical institutions.
Key Syllabus Modifications for NEET UG 2026
To align the entrance examination with the revised NCERT textbooks, the following chapters and subtopics have been pruned:
Biology: Removed & Retained Topics
Chapters such as "Transport in Plants", "Mineral Nutrition", and "Digestion & Absorption" have been removed from human and plant physiology sections. Instead, practical topics including experimental botany and histology have been given higher weightage.
Chemistry: Heavy Trimming in Physical & Inorganic
Chapters including "Solid State", "States of Matter", "Surface Chemistry", and "Hydrogen" have been removed. Organic chemistry retains full weightage, with high emphasis on reaction mechanisms and biomolecules.
Physics: Practical Focus Added
Minor deletions in communications systems; experimental physics topics (vernier calipers, screw gauge, metre bridge) now feature 4 to 5 direct questions.
MBBS Seat Categories & Admission Pathways
- 15% All India Quota (AIQ): Open to all Indian students based on pure national rank through MCC counseling.
- 85% State Quota: Reserved for domicile candidates in state government and civic medical colleges.
- Deemed & Private Medical Colleges: 100% seats open to all India students without domicile restrictions through MCC.
- NRI / Management Quota: Available for candidates qualifying NEET who seek guaranteed private medical seats.
